Teach Your Child Maths Skills Through Block Play
We add value to block play when we join in and teach our children in a fun learning environment. Children learn maths concepts as we discuss the different colours, shapes and sizes with them . They have a better understanding of what they are experiencing if we engage with them, and add valuable learning opportunities through play.
Make a space in your child’s room or play area specifically for block play, encourage your child to discover and explore as you join in. Make it a fun learning experience. Use different colours, shapes and sizes.
Make blocks out of a variety of different recycled boxes. Make it a fun learning experience as you paint them together while discussing the different shapes, sizes and colours. Encourage conversation and start the discussion through using open-ended questions during play.
When we use open-ended questions it promotes the reinforcement of important skills learnt.
