Free unstructured fun play based learning assists the physical and social development of children as they learn about the world around them.
The importance of play time is negatively impacted by the amount of pressure on children to perform well at school, parents no longer see or are unaware of the value of children learning through play . Most children spend there free time using modern technology such as too much tv time and using tablets. It is also no longer enough safe for children to play freely in most communities.
Children learn and develop in a many ways during play.
According to the National Curriculum Framework there are 6 different Early Development Areas that children learn and develop through play based learning activities.
- Well-being, health, physical abilities
Babies and toddlers learn to coordinate and strengthen their muscles through play as they explore the world around them.
- Identity and belonging
Strong relationships are built as babies and toddlers develop their confidence through socialising. Young children will bond with you first then play alongside one another and then with each other.
Babies and toddlers learn words, meaning and rhythm of language as you talk to them about the things you do together each day. Children learn the foundations of reading and writing through play.
Children learn basic maths concepts counting, shapes and colours through play.
Children use their imaginations and creativity through play they learn to solve problems.
- Understanding of the world and Knowledge
Babies play through their senses as they smell, hear, taste , touch and see new and exciting things. They begin to learn about the exciting world around them as their brain learns to interpret this information.
